What is it with Heroes, or is it our Screwed Double Expectations?

Ultimate performance dictates no respect for limits, no respect for what is norm and breaking of record after record. That applies in sport as much as it does in intellectual performance. You have to be a rebel as you get advised day after day that that which you are trying to do is impossible, illegal, wrong and blasphemous in some cycles.

What is difficult for me to understand though is how quick the public is to condemn the same characters that they scream to have more of in the boxing arena, rugby field or golf tournament when it happens recur just after they step out of the ring or  in the privacy of the bedroom, resisted (in which case you are bound to have lots of collateral damage) or not.

I am not going to condone anything violating any others rights, but I say we need to have expected it and probably have planned for it. We breed it and promote it after selectively choosing what we want from the gene pool. The method of how to manage it is complicated though.

·         Do you line women that won’t mind being palmed by Strauss Kahn for a fee?

·         Do you bring Mike Tyson in for preventative treatment, while still boxing?

·         Do we inject him with estrogen?

·         Do we put electrodes in his nucleus accumbens and teach him to replace a crushing skull at the end of his stretched fist with a button in his pocket?

·         Should we put a pair of such electrodes in the fans brains as well?

What if it tames him into a mellow lamb he became when he thanked Holyfield for whipping him?

Remember it was only a few months before that when we could hardly sit with excitement when even the referee needed protection once he was in the ring, charged and raging like a bull?

Most of us screamed for more blood when he bit Holyfield’s ear off?

We are far from switching a serotonin tap on or off, but maybe our ethical dilemmas need to be resolved now while we have time on our side.

Rage is only a psychiatrically defined term for now without the biochemistry and control that might raise ethical implications of the future.

SPECT scan results can only show the anatomical and possible hormonal and biochemical pathways involved but certainty has never been part of the medical vocabulary.

What do we want from these super heroes who know only one thing; ‘I can and I will, today irrespective of what mountains you place in my path?’
Should we not join a body shaping system, and channel our energy into something positive at least?
We may look better by default, instead of hugging the remote waiting for next high in blood.

If biochemistry and ">physiology of beauty and health are the elements of every mix, then results are assured
