Is Sanity an Acquired Trait?

Psychiatry is a difficult territory in medicine, in fact we classify as neurology or medicine anything that is based on physiology and or biochemistry of medicine and that which has to be sucked out of our thumps get lumped into psychiatric department for scalp scratching exercise.

To complicate the scenario even worse you couldn’t have chosen a worse bunch of characters to populate and manage this discipline. The psych gene seems to select a group of similar minded doctors to this field. They are divorced from reality and would I often wondered join their patients in defiance of statistical normality if given a chance to plead immunity of some sort without being declared DSM classifiable.

If normality was embedded in the gene, then why is no psychiatrist able to maintain a noble and defiant upright status irrespective of the mayhem around them? Are we expecting too much out of them in view of the fact that the psych ward is populated by many of us who had fallen out of the supposedly normal subset? Could being mad be too infective to resist or constantly work against? Could the temptation to let go and flow with the wind be too much for almost no man to resist let alone psychiatrists? Do we have to line our destinations in our order and use energy to reach each against the tide as most obsessive compulsive disorder people do or should we rather join the psychiatric department?

I have yet to find any soldier diagnosed as schizophrenic on the front line while still in employ. I have yet to find any reason why the trauma of the battleground cannot be reason enough for any subject to have his first episode of visual and or auditory hallucinations. We all get our share but lock our doors because we have insight into the implications of disclosing what hallucinatory flashes to our psychiatrist. If that soldier is so non functional as to be schizophrenic, it follows that he has to be on state pension and never be handed a gun ever. Could such a drastic decision be taken on thump sucking move? It also follows that since schizophrenia is a genetically transferred trait, then his frontline battle has much less to do with the disability than if it were post traumatic stress disorder. 

Twenty year old diagnosed as a schizophrenic as he wipes the sweat off his brow and cocks his gun from the front line, defending us. What a bloody cheek?
